The Madhya Pradesh Police started investigating the conduct of 2023 police constable recruitment examination, as several FIRs were registered on the allegations after several FIRs were registered in the state that the candidates tampered with the base-based biometrics, so that proxy candidates could be cheated to take the exam on their behalf.

Dig Virendra Singh told The Indian Express That there were a total of 17 FIRs in at least five districts. “We are now going to issue new guidelines to ensure that it should not happen in the future,” he said. Gwalior, Indore, Shivpuri and Shahdol are among these districts.

Senior police headquarters officials in Bhopal said that after several complaints from local battalions in several districts, a base verification practice of selected candidates was brought in several cases of irregularities.

At the Kampu police station in Gwalior, five candidates selected in the Guard (GD) Constable Recruitment Exam, at 2023, have been accused of manipulating their base biometrics to cheat in the written examination, according to an official letter from the 14th Battalion of Special Armed Forces (Visble).

An FIR has been registered against the candidates. This year on 23 May, a report, 14th Battalion, from the office of Gwalior, to higher officials, was sent to the selected candidates, demolishing serious irregularities in the biometric history of the selected candidates.

The complaint stated, “During the recruitment process, the Aadhaar had a biometric change, and the picture taken during the written examination of the candidates appeared differently, which increased the doubt that the above candidates had cheated in the written examination.”

Gwalior ASP Dharamvir Singh said, “Recruitment examinations include high level of technical integration today. Any attempt to cheat at any stage is quickly ascertained. This is exactly the case in this case. After selecting these candidates and the documents appeared for verification, the updated, fingerprint of the document was discovered.

While acting under the orders of the Police Headquarters in Bhopal, the battalion examined the Aadhaar update history of five persons through a nominated Aadhaar History Committee after obtaining written consent from the candidates. It was found that the accused persons changed their biometric information before the written examination on July 18, 2023 and again after the examination.

The battalion received various documents from the Madhya Pradesh Staff Selection Board in Bhopal to verify these doubts. These include the basic examination application form, admit card, result copies, second-pest admit card copy of the candidates, including the thumb impression and handwriting of the candidates made in front of the Infigilater in the examination center, and the photographs made during the registration and laboratory entry on the day of examination.

A handwriting and document compared by a committee, which was found to be mismatched in photographs and handwriting samples, which strengthens the doubt that the repatriation occurred.

The FIR said that “the picture taken at the written examination center and the handwritten scan file of the applicant … was examined by the Document Examination Committee at the channel level, which raised the doubt that the deception has been cheated in the written examination.”

On May 19, the Gwalior Police arrested an Atra Singh Rana three times to manipulate his base biometric and picture in an attempt to become a police constable. An FIR was lodged against him at the City Kotweli police station. According to officials, he updated his Aadhaar card before the written examination and replaced his picture with a proxy candidate. After approving the exam, he once again changed the base picture – this time updated it with his image.

The accused man tampered with his Aadhaar record thrice between the written examination and physical testing. When he arrived at the 5th Battalion in Morena for the document verification, the inquiry committee saw irregularities in its base biometric history. During interrogation, the suspect updated three biometrics and photos for the facility of allegedly cheating.

Station house officer Deepender Yadav confirmed the arrest, saying, “He sent a proxy in his place in the police constable recruitment examination. An investigation is going on, and other persons associated with this cheating racket will also be arrested.”

Similarly, in Shivpuri district, local police local SAF Battalion Red is investigating allegations of irregularities against two men of Gwalior following irregularities in its identity details.
