2 laborers killed as a wall collapse at construction site in Gurgaon. Bharat News

Police said a couple, who worked as laborers at a construction site in Sohna, Gurgaon, was killed on Sunday afternoon, when a newly constructed mud-starting wall collapsed on them, police said.

Police recognized the victims as 28 -year -old, 28 -year -old Lakshmi Devi as Prashant Kumar and said that they were constructing a basement at a site in Sohna Dhani village area.

According to police, the couple were engaged in working in the basement, when a brick wall built to stop the clay cave-in was likely to be due to structural failure, between 1.30 am and 1.45 pm.

Police said fellow workers raised an alarm and tried to save the couple by cleaning the debris with their hands.

Kumar was rushed to Sohna sub -division hospital, but due to serious injuries, he was sent to a civil hospital in Sector -10A, Gurgaon. He entered the hospital. Devi died on the spot and was formally declared dead in Sohna Civil Hospital.

The couple came from Lalitpur district of Uttar Pradesh and stayed in a rented residence in Sohna. Paraveen Malik, station house officer of Sokhana City Police Station, said on Monday, “Their families arrived in the city late on Sunday night. They are yet to make their statements. Based on this and if they file a complaint, we will call on whether we should file an FIR or go about investigation.”

Last month, two laborers were killed and two others were injured in a cave-one incident during the ongoing excavation work at Old Faridabad railway station.

A case of negligence was registered against the construction firm in the incident, as the workers allegedly warned the contractor about the possibility of a soil collapse.
