After investigating four policemen in Chhatrapur district of Madhya Pradesh, investigation is being done after allegations of custodial torture and police cruelty.
Families of four tribal youths of Naugaon region have accused the police of illegally detaining young men, throwing them and treating them in a “inhuman” manner.
The victims, who live their lives by making and selling broom, were reportedly raised by the Naugaon Police on 15 July. According to his families, the youth were detained on suspicion of theft, while they were on their way to a local housewife ceremony.
The incident occurred near the Disillary Road in Naugaon, where he had briefly closed to give relief to himself. He was allegedly riding on two motorcycles. One of them, who is physically disabled, was released the same evening, while the other four were kept in custody for four days.
One of the victims said in his complaint that the police snatched them inside the station and defeated them by belts and straps. He said, “They behaved like animals. We kept begging for them to stop, but they kept beating us,” they asked local reporters.

Angered by the alleged custodial torture, the families of the victims protested outside the office of the Office of the Superintendent of Police of Chhatpur on Monday. They joined the BHIM army members who marched from the local bus stand and staged a four -hour seating, seeking suspension of Naugaon Station House Officer and other police personnel.
Police Deputy Development Officer (SDOP) Amit Meshram said, “A complaint has been submitted by the relatives of the suspects. I have been directed to investigate and assured all the parties that the report will be submitted by tomorrow afternoon. Strict and fair action will be taken if anyone will be found guilty.”
