Internet services in all districts in Central Valley, Manipur, were suspended after protests at Capital Imphal on Saturday night, after the report of a Metei outfit leader to be arrested by security forces.

An Arambai Tenggol leader was allegedly detained from Quakethel region in Imphal on Saturday evening, Protesters targeted tires and blocked roads In various parts of Imphal City, including Uripok in Imphal Road, Imphal West District, their immediate release was demanded.

The confrontation between security forces and protesters was also reported in the Quakethel region, injuring many.

In early Sundays, internet and mobile data services including VSAT and VPN services, Manipur Home Commissioner N. Through an order issued by Ashok Kumar, it was suspended in the districts of Imphal East and West, Kaking, Thubal and Bishanupur for a period of five days. The order cites an apprehension that “some anti -social elements can use social media to broadcast images, abusive language and hate video messages, which can provoke video messages that incite public passion, which may have serious consequences for law and order situation in the state of Manipur”.

Internet services in these districts were last year in September last year after protests against a renewed increase in violence in the state.

Prohibition under Section 163 of BN was also imposed in the valley districts citing “the possibility of serious violation of peace, riots or riots disturbances in the region, and the illegal activities of anti -social elements, citing cited as a serious threat to human life and assets”. The total curfew was effective in Bishanupur district from 11 am on 7 June.
