The Indian Consulate in New York said that they are in touch with officials in the United States, when the video shows “an Indian student” handcuffs and pinned on the floor at Newark Airport, came to light on Sunday night.
Posted on X by an Indian-American entrepreneur, Kunal Jain, videos and photos showed an unknown young personal handcuffs and crying at the airport. Jain, who tagged the Indian Embassy in Washington DC and Minister of Foreign Affairs S Jaishankar in his series of positions, said he was speaking in “Hariyanvi language and pronunciation” and argued that the officials were bent on declaring him mentally unfit.
Taking cognizance of this, the Indian Consulate in New York said on Monday evening, “We claim that an Indian citizen is facing difficulties at the Newark Liberty International Airport. We are in touch with local authorities in this regard.” Consulates are committed to the welfare of Indian citizens, he said.
According to Jain, those who said that they first saw the incident, the young man appeared in crisis and crying because it was stopped by the police officers of the Port Authority.
There is no confirmation that the said person has left a newlyq or has come to India, it is known about this matter. He said that currently the officials are trying to find out the date and time of the video, and the identity of the said person.

Calling it a human tragedy, Jain wrote on X, “I saw a young Indian student who was deported from Newark Airport last night – handcuffs, weeping, treated as a criminal. As an NRI, I was helpless and heartbroken.”
The photographs and video clips, shared by Jain, have a young man restrained by the Port Authority Police Department (PAPD) officials, which is an agency responsible for law enforcement in the major transport hub in New York and New Jersey.
