Prohibition of prohibitive orders in Dhubri city of Assam after communal tension. Bharat News

Officials said that prohibitive orders were placed after communal tension in Dhubri city of Assam. Demonstrations were held in the city on Monday to oppose the throwing of meat near a temple. He said that the police had to use tear gas shells to bring the situation under control.

Issuing an order under Section 163 of BNSS, District Magistrate Dibkar Nath said on Monday that the ban would be applicable with immediate effect and will remain in force till further orders.

He said, “It has been brought to my notice that due to communal tension, riot risk, violent protest, etc., there is a possibility of violation of peace and public peace in the areas under the jurisdiction of Dhubri police station.”

Accordingly, he ordered all shops and markets to be closed in Dhubri Town area and banned the assembly of five or more people in any public place.

Organizing any rally, procession, meeting, or demonstration is also strictly banned, the order is mentioned.

It exempted the movements of emergency services from the scope of restrictions, said this.

“As the conditions of the situation do not accept the service of the notice in the appointed time, the order has been passed to the East,” it said.

Talking to reporters, Nath said, “I appeal to everyone to maintain peace, and there is no need to panic and be emotional. Everyone should stay indoors and respect each other.” The head of a suspected cow was found near a temple on Sunday, another official said.

Opposing this, a mob attacked vegetable vendors and e-rickshaw drivers near Dhubri Magistrate Colony and New Market.

Nath said that adequate forces have been gathered from both state and central agencies, and they have been deployed throughout the city.

Asked if the curfew would be imposed, he said, “There will be no curfew, but there will be a kind of semi-curgy. All shops and markets will be closed. I request everyone not to pay attention to all rumors, and one community should respect the other.” The district administration on Sunday held meetings between Hindu and Muslim communities and requested both sides to maintain peace.

Nath said without sharing further details, “During today’s protest, we advocated tear gas shells at one place. Nobody was injured.”

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday that several cattle were illegally slaughtered at several places on Eid on Saturday, and parts of meat were thrown at several places across the state.

He said that the police arrested 16 people from different places.
