A Youth Congress delegation met Arindam Lodh, chairman of the Tripura Human Rights Commission on Tuesday and demanded the security and protection of its leader Shahjahan Islam’s family members and other minority families living in Shantipara, Agartala.
The house of Islam in Agartala was attacked late on Sunday when they slammed the state government and police on Saturday for their alleged silence on some incidents focused on alleged cow slaughter at Eid-al-Edha in Udaipur in Gomti district. A few hours after the attack, the police arrested Islam’s father and brother.
The delegation said that the residence of Islam was vandalized by a gang of miscreants allegedly supported by the BJP on 8 June, focused around his statements on the animal sacrifice posted on Facebook.
According to him, Goon went to a fierceness, damaged his goods and furniture, and abused the women of his family.
The Youth Congress delegation also alleged in a letter to the Chark Chairperson that some BJP workers were trying to get Shahjahan out of the area by giving an ultimatum to their family members, including their mother, wife and nine -month -old sons, to evacuate the house on June 10, or their homes would be bulldozed. Family members were also threatened with death, he said.

Youth Congress workers pointed to another human rights violation in the incident, where the police arrested Shahjahan’s father and brother without any reason and sent them to 14 days of judicial custody without arresting the culprits.
“For this, the Youth Congress demanded the Human Rights Commission’s doors to ensure security to Shahjahan’s family and ensure the safety of human rights of other minority families in the area,” said the delegation.

“The way Congress leader Shahjahan Islam misbehaved with the popular Chief Minister of the state Dr. Manik Saha and the people working day by day for the security of the state and the country, the way I condemn the state home department – the police of the state home department – in bad words and the immediate arrest of Shahjahan. In the coming days so that backward minority people could use it,” they wrote on Facebook.
