After months after the grant of the government, organizations under the Rural Ministry unpaid medical claims, delayed salary. Bharat News

The body of employees of the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR) has urged Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan to intervene after the Center’s move to reduce its grant, facing the delay in medical claims and salary.

Nirdpr is the apex institution for training and research in rural development and serves as a think tank for the Ministry of Rural Development.

Representatives of NIRDPR Employees Body and Academic Association met Chauhan during their visit to Hyderabad on Monday.

Some BJP leaders including Ranga Reddy district of Telangana, V Sridhar Reddy, along with representatives. Reddy told The Indian Express that he has presented a letter to the minister that the issues faced by the employees were highlighted after grant-help to the NIRDPR from the financial year 2025-26.

The letter mentions four issues: Non-payments and delays in payment of salaries to employees and self-help groups (SHG) workers; To give “forced” employees an undertaking that they are taking salaries as loans that have to be repaid; Medical claims, children’s education allowance, payment of LTC claims, among others; And no dialogue “dissolution” post with employees about the functioning of “non-transparent” and “unacceptable” Director General and Service Conditions by DG. Dissolution means dissection of grant-aids.

The Center has increased the NIRDPR budgetary allocation to just Rs 1 lakh for the financial year 2025-26, which is Rs 73.68 crore in revised estimates of the 2024-25 financial year and Rs 75.69 crore in 2023-24.

In his letter, the NIRDPR Academic Association has urged the minister to take action. The letter has urged the minister to enroll two rural development officers as Deputy Director General and as in-charge in-charge in NIRDPR and as Registrar.

NIRDPR focuses on training, capacity building, research and policy advocacy, and runs an academic program in regular and distance mode. The courses include diplomas in Rural Development Management and Tribal Development Management.
