Fire fighting attempt after explosion from Kerala coast, India rode in Singapore vessel

Indian Coast Guard and other agencies are working around the clock to cover a large fire in the Singapore-Flagged cargo vessel MV Wan, 503, which caught fire earlier this week, when a container exploded from Kerala coast during the route from Colombo to Mumbai.

This included the Salve Master, who is now monitoring the situation from the onboard.
Officials said that now the focus has been focused on keeping the vessel away from the coast and extinguishing the fire completely.

Fire efforts focused on the ship’s forward cargo holds are being led by Indian Coast Guard ships Samudra Prahari and Samarth.

They are using foam and border cooling to prevent the fire from spreading.

DG Shipping said, “Hydrocarbon vapors have been observed by the disposal master, indicating possible heat transfer near the fuel tank. Continuous estimation is being done on the ship to monitor any increase,” DG Shipping said.

At the same time, Ambassador, Arnavesh, Abhinav, and ICGS 513 are searching and rescue operations in the field. Out of 22 crew members on the ship, 18 were rescued, while four are missing.

After the earlier attempt failed, a TO connection was successfully created between cargo ship and emergency rope water lily along with water lilies.

It was obtained through joint efforts by the Marine Emergency Response Center (Mer) and ICG personnel.

Officials say the fuel tank is still at risk due to dangerous cargo and hydrocarbon vapor.

The Coast Guard also flew into five team members- including three disposal experts and two rescue divers, who support the operation.

Officials said additional fire fighting supplies, including more foam and dry chemical powder, are being sent to assist the crew. PTI
