The Government Railway Police (GRP) said on Monday that a Bangladeshi National and an Indian Tout were arrested during two separate raids at Agartala railway station in Tripura.
In the first incident, Bangladeshi National, 35 -year -old Pranjit Ray, was arrested on Wednesday during a joint operation organized by Agartla GRP, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and other sister agencies.
During the initial interrogation, investigators found that Ray, a resident of Silhat district in Bangladesh, illegally entered Tripura and planned to go from Agartla railway station to Kolkata.
“We seized some documents and some Indian currency. We are investigating these things,” an official said.
In a separate incident, an Indian human trafficking resident of Chhanipur in West Tripura district was also arrested during a joint operation conducted by security agencies.

The GRP officer said that the smugglers, identified as Debasish Malkar alias Debu, provided food and shelter to Bangladeshi citizens who had illegally entered Tripura.
He said, “He was absconding for a long time. We arrested him yesterday (Wednesday) and presented it before the court today (Friday).”

Many Bangladeshi nationals and Rohingyas have been arrested for illegally entering Tripura in recent months.
According to a Tripura Police report, 816 Bangladeshi citizens, 79 Rohingya persons and two Nigerians were arrested in the state between January 1, 2024 and 28 February this year.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds home portfolio, recently informed that 2,815 Bangladeshi nationals were arrested from 2022 to 31 October 2024 to cross the Indo-Bangla border in Tripura, out of which 1,746 have been pushed back to their country and 1,069 have been sent to jail.
Tripura shared an 856 km international border with Bangladesh, most of which are covered with thorny wire fences except except for a few patch which are still unexpected due to local disputes.
