Soon after the take-off in Ahmedabad, after an Air India aircraft accident, Tata Group Airline CEO Campbell Wilson expressed “Deep Sorro”, saying it was a difficult day for everyone in Air India. In his first statement since the accident on Tuesday afternoon, Wilson said that the carrier’s teams are working around the clock to support passengers, crew and their families, besides working with officials at the accident site to assist in emergency response efforts. He also said that when the investigation takes time, the airline is affecting all those who can support the affected people.
During this time, Bye Sons President N Chandrasekaran announced that the Tata Group would provide Rs 1 crore to the families of those who have been killed in an accident, and will cover all the medical expenses of the injured.
An Air India aircraft along with 242 people crashed in a residential area near Ahmedabad Airport on Tuesday afternoon on an Air India aircraft -230 passengers and 12 crews, resulting in several casualties. The correct number of dead and injured is not yet clear.
The 11-year-old Boeing 787 aircraft-registration registration was VT-NB-Ahmedabad and the operations between London Gatwick Airport were UDAI-171. This is the first detailed-body accident for an Indian airline in four decades. It is also the first accident of Boeing 787 globally. According to flight tracking data, the indication from the aircraft was lost at a height of just 625 feet, after the tech-off moments. It then landed with a vertical speed of 475 feet per minute and crashed. According to the Aviation Safety Regulator Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the pilots gave the Ahmedabad Airport Air Traffic Control (ATC) on the take-off-off day, after which it crashed outside the airport circumference.
“We are actively working with the authorities on all emergency response efforts. A special team of Air India care teams are on their way to Ahmedabad to provide additional assistance. The investigation will take time, but whatever we can do now, we are doing anything. We know that many people are worried for the welfare of their loved ones. We can install a special helpline.

“We understand that people are eager for information. Please know that we will continue sharing the exact and timely information as soon as possible, but whatever we report should be accurate and not be betting. We give to everyone involved. Now, our teams are working with the investigators along with the investigators.”
Wilson said that when there are many questions around the accident, he was not in a position to answer them all in this stage.

In a statement posted on the official handle of the Tata Group, Tata sons president N Chandrasekaran said the group was “suffering from the tragic incident”, including a sick Air India flight.
“Any word can not express the grief in this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with families who have lost their loved ones, and those who have been injured. The Tata group will provide ₹ 1 crore to each individual’s families, who have lost their lives in this tragedy.
The chairman of the Tata sons said, “We are firm in standing with families and communities affected during this unimaginable time.”
