Search to reset relationships: Mea on India-Canada | Bharat News

On Thursday, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday that next week, a meeting was held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Karney on the occasion of the G7 Summit in Kananskis next week.

Both India and Canada are “vibrant democracy bound by law’s commitment to the rule of law”, so the meeting will be important for both leaders to share ideas on bilateral and global issues, Mea spokesperson Randhir Jiswal said in response to a question in weekly briefing.

On 6 June, PM Modi received a call from his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney, which invited him to attend the upcoming G7 summit in Canada later this month. Later, in a post on X, PM Modi congratulated Carney for his recent election victory and thanked him for the invitation. PM Modi said that he is keen to meet PM Carney in Canada.

Mea spokesperson said that this call was also an opportunity to talk about India-Canada relations, and how it can be carried forward.

“We believe that the upcoming meeting between the two leaders on the occasion of the G7 Summit in Canada will provide an important opportunity for them to exchange ideas on bilateral and global issues, and find the path to set or reset the relationship based on mutual respect, shared interests and sensitivity for each other’s concerns.”
