In a major success, security forces have recovered 328 weapons and 8,665 mixed ammunition in separate discovery works conducted in different valley districts of Manipur, officials said.
Security officials have called it the ‘largest single-day recovery’ as part of the ongoing operation of the police department, which has been initiated to recover stolen weapons and ammunition from the armies of state forces.
“This recovery was done by a joint team of Manipur Police, Central Armed Police Forces, Army and Assam Rifles on the night of intervention of June 13 and 14,” an official said, “an official said.
The recovered weapons include 151 SLR rifles, 65 INS rifles, 73 rifles, 5 carbine guns, 2 MP5 guns, 12 light machine guns and 6 AK series rifles. Out of the total ammunition recovered, 3,534 SLR rounds, 2,186 INSAS round, 2,252 .303 rounds, 234 rounds of AK series, 209 mm round, 10 hand grenade, three letters shells and intake detonators are detonators.
The DGP office said in a statement, “This intelligence-based operations marks a major achievement for the Manipur Police, security forces, which is in its constant efforts to restore the general situation, maintain public orders and ensure safety of citizens and their assets.”

The statement also reiterated: “The Manipur Police is committed to a peaceful and safe Manipur. The public is urged to cooperate with the police and security forces and report any suspicious activities or information related to illegal arms in the nearest police station or central control room”.
The police officer said that more than 5,000 weapons and more than 60,000 ammunition have been recovered with it. More than 6,000 weapons and more than one lakh weapons were looted from state forces since ethnic violence erupted in Manipur on May 3, 2023.

To recover the looted weapons, the state government is in coordination with other security agencies, operating.
