India News directs DGP to investigate the death of Assam woman in Uttarakhand CM Rishikesh

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhammi on Saturday directed the state DGP to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of a woman in Rishikesh.

Rupemita Hozai (25) from Dima Hasao district of Assam was reported to be missing on 6 June and was found to be dead five days later on the banks of the Ganges river in Rishikesh.

On Tuesday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote to Dhami that the matter was further investigated.

Uttarakhand police said that death was found to be a suicide case.

Her family said that she was in Delhi for a Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) examination and later visited Rishikesh with two persons.

According to Muni’s SHO, Sub-Inspector Yogesh Pandey, the post-mortem report said that the cause of death was sinking and no external injuries were found.
