Through ‘Dunky Marg’, a person accused of being part of a racket for the facility of illegal immigration, refusing to grant anticipatory bail and cheating a resident of Haryana, who wanted to go to the United States, the Supreme Court on Monday said that it is because of people like him that Indian passports are devalued.

A bench of Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan rejected the accused Om Prakash’s anticipatory bail argument and commented orally, “Indian passports are devalued because of people like you.”

The bench told the lawyer appearing for the appellant, “Bhola poor people, you are taking them for a ride.”

Rejecting the petition, the court said, “We have no good reason to entertain this anticipatory bail application.” The lawyer pressured for relief, but the court said, “These are very serious allegations.”

The FIR was lodged on a complaint by a person named Raja who wanted to settle abroad. In May 2024, one of the accused in the case, Surinder, who is working as an agent, allegedly assured him that he would send him to America through legitimate means, to a tune of Rs 43 lakh to his expense. The king’s family agreed and allegedly gave Surinder Rs 3 lakh as advance.

Prakash then approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, stating that he was falsely implicated in the case. Prakash argued that according to cedar, it was co-composed, Surinder, and not the one who inspired the complainant and arranged for him to go abroad.

On 9 April, the High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea. The High Court said, “The petitioner has criminal entranceants as he is involved in another case of equal nature.
