A different type of man who was missing for days, was found to be buried near a Reverbank in the Imphal West District on Tuesday, fresh protests in Manipur.
The victim has been identified as Chasam Abdul Qadri, a 29 -year -old Maii Leikai of the Imphal West District. Police said Qadir went missing on June 10 and remained unknown till Tuesday, when the police arrested nine persons, including six members of the Metei outfit Arambai Teengol.
Police also seized five vehicles in connection with the incident. As the news of Kadir’s death, the locals of Pavoetata Mayai Leicai burnt the tire and took the streets to the streets of Imphal. A confrontation between the police and the protesters also broke; While the former fired tear gas to disperse them, the latter released stones using catapults.
According to police officials, the arrested accused confessed that Qadir died while “inquiry” about the alleged theft case, and his body was then buried.
Police said Qadir’s body was in the presence of executive magistrate, forensic team and family members.
Nine accused have been produced before a magistrate and sent to police custody for further investigation.
MIITEI PANGAL civic bodies condemned the murder, called it barbaric. United Metei-Pangal Committee demands Intense Justice should be given in the case by handing over to the National Investigation Agency. The committee urged the officials to ban legal investigation into activities of illegal armed vigilance groups.
