He and nine other Sunday went to take a dip in the sea. Around 6 pm, they wandered into a separate part of the beach, where college students and a male friend also reached around 6:30 pm.

Police said the accused allegedly faced the couple, after which three of them raped the woman, while others attacked the man and tied him up till around 8 pm.

Apart from the hero, the police say Babram Dalai, 19, and 24 -year -old Kunal Pradhan were involved in rape.

A senior police officer said, “Nayak and Pradhan were trying to escape to either Bangalore or Surat, where Laxman works in a power loom factory after committing crime. The police arrested them before leaving their respective places,” a senior police officer said.

The Gopalpur police on Monday registered a case after filing a written complaint to the woman. Barahampur SP said that the woman and her friends are stable. The police have raised 10 people, including four minors, who are 17 years old. Police officials said they intend to try them as adults.

The crime branch has investigated and considering the case as a “red flag”, which requires increased and careful investigation.

Since the crime, the calm and sandy shores of Gopalpur have worn a uninhabited form. Gopalpur is a popular destination for tourists visiting the southern parts of Odisha. Although the beach extends to about 8 kilometers, there is only one kilometer congestion in a stretch, while the rest is empty and dark after sunset.
