The Odisha government has ordered an inquiry into an amber light on a private vehicle and the use of the board’s IAS probationer. The move came after a picture of the vehicle with the performance board and Amber Lite went viral on social media.
In a letter to the Kalahandi Collector, the General Administration Department noted the use of a vehicle officer installed with a board “IAS Probationer Kaladi” with Amber (Yellow) Prakash.
The GA department letter said, “It is not known under which circumstances the IAS probation is using such facilities. Therefore, you request this department to submit a report in this matter.”
While the state government has not named the officer, Kalahndi Collector Sachin Pawar did not respond to the call to comment on the issue.
IAS probations are ruled by the Indian Administrative Service (Probation) Rules, 1954, which outlines the rules for their training, evaluation and conduct during the probationary period. These rules emphasize on a two -year probation period, which can be extended by the government, and includes Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) and strict training in the relevant state.
According to All-India Services (Conduct) Rules, 1968, people under probation are expected to maintain high standards of discipline, integrity and conduct. Amber lights on vehicles are used for emergency and special conditions and not for general use by all-India service officers.
