Kerala Education Minister V Shivkutty came out of an official ceremony at Raj Bhavan on Thursday, protesting against the use of Bharat Mata’s picture with a saffron flag at the site.
The minister questioned the justification for using the picture at an official ceremony at Raj Bhavan, but Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar said that the minister’s walkout is “a gross violation of the protocol and a serious insult to the Governor’s office”.
The Governor’s office said that Raj Bhavan saw the incidents with great concern. “This public performance of misconduct has personally humiliated the Governor, in addition to the Governor’s office. The minister did not bother to inform the Governor about his sudden exit. According to the protocol, even any person among the audience, leaves those who shared the desagion with the governor, until the governor is stopped from leaving.”
The event was the Scouts and Guide State Awards ceremony of Kerala State India at Raj Bhavan, for which the Governor was the chief guest. During his address, the minister protested against the portrait of Bharat Mata at the site and then left the work.
Later, the minister told the media, “Raj Bhavan is not the family property of the Governor. It cannot be converted to an RSS center. When I reached the site, I noticed that the governor paid floral tribute to the picture.
In a statement after the minister spoke to the media, the Governor’s office said, “The minister who handled the education portfolio has set a wrong example from his misconduct. The Agriculture Department had planned to inaugurate the state level of Environment Day Festival as the chief guest with the Governor at Raj Bhavan. When the department officials alerted the minister about the presence of the picture at the site, they decided to stay away from the incident.
As a result, the department performed its work in the Durbar Hall of the State Secretariat, while Raj Bhavan did the prescribed work without the minister.
