The quarrel between Kerala’s Governor and its elected Communist Party of India (Marxist) now appears to enter a new range. This is the second time the CPI (M) -T Front Government in the state has closed the horns with Raj Bhawan on the use of such pictures on cars.
Addressing the media on Friday, Shivkutty said that the second amount of social science textbooks for class 10 would include lessons on the constitutional powers of the Governor. “In addition, when the syllabus for classes 11 and 12 will be renewed, the same subject will be included in the course. The Supreme Court had clearly asked the Governor’s powers. Constitutional values should be taught in schools. The governor should fix his advice to the students that they should be admiring Bharat Maa.”
Thursday was organized at Raj Bhavan, Scouts and Guide State Awards ceremony of Kerala State India, for which the Governor was the chief guest. During his address, the minister protested against Bharat Mata’s portrait and went out of the ceremony. He eventually told the media: “Raj Bhavan is not the family property of the Governor. It cannot be converted to an RSS center. When I reached the venue, I saw that the governor paid floral tributes before the picture.
The Governor later said that there is no question of removing Bharat Mata, “as we draw our views about patriotism and nationalism from Mother India”.
“Bharat Mata helps to increase nationalist values among our younger generation,” he said.
