Many political leaders of Kashmir expressed concern over the deteriorating health of separatist leader Shabir Shah on Friday, who are currently in Tihar Jail.

Former J&P Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti called upon the Center to compassion and said: “Shabir Shah, Tihar is disorganized in Jail for a long time, is allegedly suffering from prostate cancer and is immediate need for surgery. It is deeply unfortunate that the courts prevent their family from appearing during their treatment.”

He urged the Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan to intervene on “humanitarian basis” and ensure that Shah’s family be allowed to stay on his behalf.

Shah was arrested in June 2019 in an alleged terrorist funding case. However, he has spent a lot of time in jail in the last 30 years, and his latest bail plea was rejected by the Delhi High Court on 12 June.

In his Friday’s preaching at Jamia Mosque in Srinagar, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also highlighted Shah’s medical condition and appealed to the Center not to punish the process “for” Kashmiri political prisoners “. “Yesterday, I spoke to his wife, who told me that the bail argument of the family has been rejected, despite citing his serious medical condition, and she does not know how to help her,” he said.

The Chairman of the People’s Conference Sajad Lone also urged compassion in the case of Shah, saying that he is suffering from life-threatening diseases that require medical intervention.

Lone said, “The best way would be that he can include his family.
