Amid increasing concerns over misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and potential copyright violations, the Digital News Publishers Association (DNPA) has welcomed the Center’s initiative to review the complex intersection of AI and Copyright Law.
“DNPA strongly believes that digital news publishers, without consent, forms a violation of copyright for the purposes of AI training and subsequent generative AI applications, such as search assistance and information.
Any government initiative is important for the development of digital news media in the country to ensure “fair play”.
The initiative is under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to promote Industry and Internal Trade to promote commerce and industry, which will seek stakeholder response to how AI intensifies with existing copyright laws.
In its statement, DNPA stated that AI forms copyright violations using the content of digital news publishers without permission for training and generative applications. The association has strongly advocated for a regulatory structure that ensures proper compensation to the creators, protecting its rights in a developed digital environment.
“DNPA is ready to work with the Ministry to prepare a fair and balanced governance that allows appropriate compensation for material producers, allowing the AI model to be manufactured and developed,” it said.
