Dowal traveled to Beijing in December last year when India and China agreed to a set of “six general consensus”, including Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, Trans-Border River Cooperation and Nathula border trade resumption.

It was announced by both sides after negotiations between NSA Dowal and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing, which is also a special representative (SRS).

This was the first meeting of SRS since the India-China border areas were friction in the western region in 2020.

Both sides have monitored the implementation of the October 2024 disruption agreement, resulting in patrolling and grazing in the border areas.

Sources said that now with Rajnath Singh’s first visit and NSA Doval’s second visit to China, since the disintegration process was completed, the two sides would focus on the de-ecstation and D-induction of the soldiers, the sources said.

Both sides have taken some steps, including to resume the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, which have just begun, and are also talking about resumption of direct flights. India and China are also looking to reduce visa karb for Chinese citizens and share data on transnational rivers like Brahmaputra.

Earlier this month, the Indian side gave its support for China’s Shanghai Cooperation Organization Presidency.

Sources said that the Indian side is working towards connecting with the Chinese side, but the border position with “eyes wide open” is still not normal.
