A worried Delhi was monitoring the situation in Qatar, where more than 8 lakh Indians live and work, and the Indian embassy asked the community to be vigilant as Iran launched a military attack on an American base in Qatar on Monday night.
The Indian Embassy in Doha said, “In view of the ongoing situation, the Indian community in Qatar is urged to be vigilant and stay inside the house. Please keep calm and follow the local news, instructions and guidance provided by the Katri officials. The embassy will also keep updating through our social media channels.”
The Indian community is the largest migrant community in the country, with the highest per capita income in the world.
Iran said it launched a military attack on Al Udid Airport in Qatar, the largest American military establishment in the region, according to a statement by the country’s armed forces. A senior White House official first confirmed that the US was aware of the possible attack by Iran against Al Udid Air Base. A Israeli official also said that Iran was designed to attack on the basis.
India has a strong political and economic relations with Qatar, and maintains high-level contacts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Qatar on 14-15 February 2024. This was his second visit to Qatar. Modi was on a state trip to Doha on 4-5 June 2016.
More than 8.3 lakh strong Indian community is the largest migrant community in Qatar and is engaged in a wide spectrum of businesses, including drugs, engineering, education, education, finance, banking, business and media, besides a large number of blue-colored workers.
In areas such as infrastructure, communication and information technology, energy, more than 20,000 large and small Indian companies are working in Qatar, either full -owned or joint venture, energy.

According to Invest Qatar, Indian companies have invested more than USD 350 million in Qatar for a period of 2017-2025. Indian companies in areas have been present in Qatar for many years.
Some of these include L&T, Shapoorji Pallonji, Wipro,, TCS, Tech mahindraLulu Group, Malabar and Tannis.
Currently, more than 60,000 Indian students are studying in 19 Indian schools and in some international schools in the entire Qatar. There are about 4,500 faculty and non-cycled in Indian schools alone.
Sources said that Delhi must be looking at the welfare of Indians in the country, and will take all measures.
