The government should take the recommendations of the house panel positively: Om Birla. Bharat News

At a time when the proceedings of the parliamentary committees regularly sees sharp, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on Tuesday that the parliamentary committees are not against the government, but it is complementary and the government should see them with equal positivity. He also said that the authorities should ensure that the recommendations of the committees are processed.

Addressing the concluding session of the two -day national conference of estimates of Parliament and State/UT Legislative bodies in Mumbai, Birla said, “The presidents of the estimate committees believe that parliamentary committees should not work to work against the government. Action is taken properly.”

In the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, Rajya Sabha Vice President Harivesh, Assembly Speaker Rahul Narvekar and Estimate Committee Chairman Sanjay Jaiswal were among the attendees.

Emphasizing the role and responsibilities of constitutional bodies with a visionary perspective, Birla said, “Public representatives in these committees bring their long experiences of working in people and society. When our democracy came into existence, it was decided that the public opinion is our tradition. There is more governance to accept people’s expectations and aspirations.”

Later at a press conference, answering a question how he sees the difference between recommendations and implementation, Birla said, “During the conference, we discussed that before reaching the recommendations, the committees should discuss with all the stakeholders, which should include experts and government officials. The government will confirm these reports.”

There is a question on the state governments that the populist schemes are going faster than the localfare schemes, Birla said, “Although this is the concern of the state governments, it is my opinion that states should focus on public welfare.”

The conference saw discussion on financial discipline and transparency, there was a strong base for improvement through sharing experience with the state and central committees. With collective support for steps towards smart governance, there was widespread consensus on data-powered evaluation and technology use.

Birla said that more public participation in the committee’s processes was also discussed at the conference. He said, “More public participation is ensured, the more discussion the committees are with the public, the better the results will be.”
