The Tripura police on Wednesday detained a mentally challenging person allegedly to try to fire plastic waste on a railway track in Bishalgarh in Sephijala district. Their identity is not yet known.

Police said that the person was seen trying to set fire to some chips packets on the railway track at Bishalgarh railway station when some local people caught him and handed him over to the police. “The person has been mentally challenged. We have registered a general diary entry on the incident,” said an official of Bishalgarh police station.

Officials said no train service has been affected due to the incident. Many DEMU trains and Sabroom-Caldah Kanjunagha Express use this stretch. However, the express train was not running on the route as all long-distance train services outside Tripura have been suspended from Monday, after the boulder and a landmas fell on the railway track in the new Haflong-Jettinga Lumpur section, allegedly due to unfair road repair done by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

The Northeast Frontier Railway has reduced the six other trains and canceled the Guwahati-Silkar Express and the Dullachra-Guwahati Express-to connect the Caldah-Silker Kanchanjunga Express, Lokmanya Tilak Express Agartla and Mumbai, Tejas Express with New Deli, Call-Egartla. Silchar-Naharlagun Express. The Silker-New Delhi PSK Express was re-determined due to disintegration.
