The line of Union Minister Suresh Gopi’s upcoming Malayalam film ‘Janaki vs State of Kerala’ has increased. The film’s makers sought a change in the film title by another panel of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), yet a few days after transferring the High Court against the delay in film certification.

In a post on social media on Thursday, film director Praveen Narayanan said that CBFC’s Amendment Committee wanted a change not only in the title of the film but also in the name of the hero.
“The committee wanted to change the name Janaki,” he said in a social media post. Later, he said: “He (CBFC) has given us something else to change the name of the main hero”.
The line belongs to the name Janaki – another name for the Hindu goddess Sita in the title. Court room drama Janaki, a woman who wants justice after a painful incident.
While actor Anupama plays the role of Parameshewaran Janaki, actor-prose-royalty Suresh Gopi plays the role of a senior advocate who represents him in court.
Prior to the Amendment Committee, the CBFC examination committee also sought the name of the hero – as well as the title of the film. While the CBFC examination committee is responsible for reviewing films and providing them suitable certification for public exhibition, the Amendment Committee reviews films in matters where applicants are dissatisfied with recommendations or suggested changes.
The film was scheduled to release on 27 June. With the release of the film at Limbo, its producer Cosmos Entertainment has shifted the Kerala High Court, which has directed CBFC to inform the revised committee’s decision on its next hearing on 27 June.

Meanwhile, the Film Employees Federation of Kerala criticized CBFC for its stance, saying that it would create a crisis in the industry.
