Saying that any contractor or anyone who had done wrong in the implementation of the Water Life Mission (JJM), will not be spared, Water Power Minister CR Patil said on Thursday that 92 percent of the teams of central nodal officers have deputed for the “ground inspection” of rural tap water schemes and expected to be left by the end of this month.
Addressing a press conference on the achievements of its ministry on the completion of 11 years of the NDA government, Patil said, “Formed from 119 teams, 111 teams have completed their survey work. 89 of them have submitted their reports and are working that the remaining teams have expected to submit their resorts in only 30 (June).
Patil said that whoever has done any wrong, will not be spared.
,Hemne Pahal was said to be a Lok Sabha Me, to you. ,I have said in the first Lok Sabha and I repeat it now. The purpose of tap water scheme is to provide drinking water in the common man’s house. If a contractor or someone else does wrong, we will not leave anyone), ”Patil said while answering a question.
Patil said that he had made it clear and that is why the government had deployed more than 100 teams of central nodal officers for ground inspection of JJM schemes. On May 19, the Center announced to send 100 teams for “ground inspection” of water life mission plans across the country. The step follows a meeting on 8 May under the chairmanship of the Cabinet Secretary to review the mission plans. Later, some more teams were added to the preliminary list of teams.
Patil said that the states have also been told that there should be no complaint where the tap has been installed but no water is available. He said that the state governments have been told that if the source of water has dried up, it must create another source with his own money and ensure the water supply, he said.
Patil’s comments are important in view of the ongoing investigation of JJM amid concerns over rising costs. Since the launch of the Water Life Mission in 2019, 6.4 lakh water supply schemes with a total estimated cost of Rs 8.29 lakh crore – more than double the original outlay of the scheme is more than Rs 3.60 lakh crore (Center: 2.08 lakh crore, states: 1.52 lakh crore).
