A day after RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, should the words “socialist” and “secular” remain in preamble, opposition Lok Sabha leader Rahul Gandhi said that the “RSS mask” has come once again, and that the Constitution talks to them “equality, secularism and justice.”

Opposition parties including CP (i) M and RJD also condemned Hosabale’s comments

Gandhi said in a post on X, “They want Manusmriti. They aim to snatch the margins and the poor again.

Jeram Ramesh, the Congress MP and in-charge in communication, referred to the order of the Supreme Court on 25 November, which dismissed the petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the 42nd amendment-through which the words ‘secular’ and ‘socialist’ were added to the emergency period in 1976.

Ramesh said that these conditions have “received widespread approval, with their meanings ‘we, people of India’ are considered without any doubt”.

“The Chief Justice of India gave himself a decision on November 25, 2024, the issue is now being raised by a prominent RSS worker. Will it ask too much to request him to take trouble to read?” He said.

Ramesh said that the RSS and BJP have repeatedly given a call for a new constitution “. He said, “It was cried to Shri Modi’s campaign during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The people of India decisively rejected this cry. Yet the demand to change the original structure of the Constitution is being formed by the RSS ecosystem,” he said.

On Thursday, Hosabale said, “Socialist and secular words were added to the preamble. No attempt was made to remove them later. Therefore, there should be a discussion on whether they should remain. I say that in the name of a building (Ambedkar International Center), Babasaheb Ambedkar’s name, which did not have these words in the name of Babasaheb Ambedkar.”

RJD chief and former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad said: “The country’s most artists and disgusting organization RSS has called for changing the Constitution … They do not have the courage to keep a bad eye on the constitution and reservation …”

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said: “A calling of emergency to discredit these principles is a fraudulent step, especially when the RSS collides with the Indira Gandhi government during the time to its survival … now shows appreciation and political opportunity to reduce the constitution to use that period.”

On 25 November, a bench of former Chief Justice of India Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar said that the power of Parliament under Article 368 to amend the Constitution also extends to the preface and rejected the argument that the words cannot be rebuilt in 1976, which is the date of the cut-off of 26 November, 1949.

In a statement, Congress MP and Lok Sabha, Manikam Tagore in whip said: “The RSS always wanted the constitution to be attacked, and it should be removed … We all know that RSS stands for Mantuwad and wants to spread hatred. They call themselves a cultural organization, we all reveal a political form.
