Heavy rains in various parts of Kerala along with India’s Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert in five districts of the state for the day.
The IMD gave orange warnings for the day in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram and Wayanad districts of the state.
An orange warning means very heavy rainfall of 11 cm to 20 cm.
During the last few days, the rains in the state increased the water level in various rivers, causing floods from various low-fledged areas and migrated hundreds of their homes.
In the last few days, it opened shutters in some dams like Moziyar in Bansura Sagar in Pathanamthitta district in the state and Pathanamthitta district.
An official statement said that the shutter of the Pachi Dam in Thrissur district is expected to be opened on Saturday afternoon.
The district administration said that shutters of various dams including Kanjirapujha, Malamampuzha and Meenkara in Palakkad were opened on Saturday after the increase in their water level due to rain in their catchment areas.

Apart from these, Idukki district officials are preparing for the possible opening of Mulpariar Dam, on Friday, Tamil Nadu officials indicated that they could open the shutter after reaching 136 feet.
As a precaution, the district administration on Friday completed the arrangement to vacate 3,220 people from 883 families living in low -lying areas, including villages such as Periyar, Manjumala, Apuputahura, Elpara, Ayapankavil, Kanchiar, ionavilasam and Udumbanola.
On Saturday, at 10 am, the water level at Mullaperiyar Dam reached 135.70 feet.
Mullaperiyar Dam located in Kerala-although in 1886, is back and maintained by Tamil Nadu under a 999-year lease.

Kerala fears that the dam of aging pose a security risk, while Tamil Nadu emphasizes maintaining full control to ensure water supply for its agricultural needs.
