The police alone cannot curb the incidents of rape, Madhya Pradesh DGP Kailash Makwana has cited factors such as the moral decline of the society due to the availability of pornography through mobile phones and internet.
Talking to reporters on Saturday after presiding over The Force’s review meeting here, the Director General of Police said, “The way pornography is being served on the Internet, children’s brains are getting distorted.” “There are many reasons behind the increasing incidents of rape. I think it involves the availability of internet, mobile phones, pornographic content and alcohol. Today, through mobile phones, someone is connecting with someone else. There are many reasons for the decline of morality in the society. It is not possible for the police alone to deal with it,” he said.
Makana claimed that the children used to listen to teachers and family members earlier, but “today no one is able to monitor each other in a house”.
Now all the boundaries are breaking, he said.
“The way pornographic materials are being served on the Internet, it is definitely distorting their (children’s) brains. That is why these incidents are happening,” the DGP insisted.
Incidentally, in the last session of the MP assembly, the state government informed that 20 cases of rape were reported daily in 2024.
According to data provided by the State Home Department, 6134 rape cases were registered in 2020, which increased by 19 percent in 7294 in 2024.
