Lottery decided the fate of the principals selected for 5 Patna University colleges

In a departure from traditional selection processes, the appointment of principals for five colleges of Patna University was held on Wednesday through a lottery-based system, a trick authorities say that “transparency and neutrality” was aimed at ensuring “transparency and neutrality”.

Under the supervision of Raj Bhavan, the decision operated a lot of draws under videographic surveillance caused by a three -member panel, stating that the lottery was “limited to the allocation of colleges”.

According to sources associated with the process, the decision to allocate colleges through lottery was a preventive measure against lobbying and unfair effects. “Candidates were recommended by BSUSC based on their qualification cum option. The lottery was fully organized with the objective of allotment to colleges, not to select these candidates. This was done to prevent any partiality or corruption,” a source familiar with this process.

Inner sources said that the move was to neutralize potential pressure from powerful quarters. “Among the selected candidates in BSUSC, there were several high-profile individuals, including relatives of senior government officials and bureaucrats. To avoid possible pressure to gain placements in preferred colleges, Raj Bhavan opted for a random system to ensure fairness,” the source said.

Among the newly appointed principals, Dr. Alka Yadav, Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar is a home science teacher of Bihar University, who has become the first female principal of Patna Science College in her almost long history. Similarly, Dr. Suheli Mehta has taken charge at Vanajya Mahavidyalaya, who has also become the first woman to be the head of Commerce Institution.

Magadh Women’s College, a Women’s-Cowl Society, will be led by Professor NP Verma, who is a history professor of Jai Prakash University. Sources said that this is only the second time when a man has taken over in college, in which the previous example is short -lived.

Patna College, a cradle of Patna University established in 1863, now Professor of Chemistry, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. It will be led by Anil Kumar, for the first time a science faculty member has been traditionally appointed to lead the art centered college. Professor Yogendra Kumar Verma has been allotted to Patna Law College.

Traditionally, the principal of the college is appointed directly by the Vice Chancellor. However, in view of the previous controversies over the alleged bias in appointments in Bihar universities, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan made it compulsory for the lottery method to oversee the posting from the Busk panel in his ability as a Chancellor.

Despite the justification introduced, the move attracted some backlash, in which some senior academics expressed concern over the academic background and mismatch in institutional needs.

One of the appointments, Dr. Suheli Mehta, who first topped the BSUSC merit list, approached the Patna High Court challenging the use of lottery in the appointment process, but later withdrew the petition, which cleared the way for Raj Bhavan to move forward with posting.

The selection and appointment process in other universities including Petaliputra University is also allegedly going on and will be done under the same guidelines issued by the Chancellor’s Office.
