Police on Monday killed two women and an eight-year-old girl was injured after a wall of an under-construction poultry farm collapsed due to heavy rains in Nupada district of Odisha.

A senior official said that the incident took place in Lakhna area on Sunday after the wall collapsed, and the deceased was identified as Balmati Sabar (35) and RuPay Sabar (61).

He said that the injured minor Riddhi Saber is undergoing treatment.

The Meteorological Department of India (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy rainfall for 16 out of 16 districts of Odisha for Monday.

In a weather bulletin, the IMD Bhubaneswar Center said that on Sunday, Ganga West Bengal and a low pressure area were formed in the neighborhood.

During the next two days, Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh are expected to move gradually to west-north-west.

Under this influence, heavy rainfall began in many parts of Odisha including the state capital Bhubaneswar from Sunday.

The weather office stated that very heavy rainfall along with electricity and air speed reaching at a speed of 30-40 km per hour is expected to be held on Monday in Kenjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh and Nupada.

These districts are placed under the ‘Orange’ warning category, which refers to the preparation to take action.

A ‘yellow’ warning (being aware) has also been released for the day for Balangir, Sonpur, Buddhist, Kandmal, Kalahadi, Naygarh, Cuttack and Dhankanal.

Apart from this, there is a possibility of having electricity at some places in some places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kandrapara, Jagat Singhpur, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj at some places with electricity.

IMD has advised fishermen not to do the sea in the sea along the coast of Odisha on Monday and do not enter the sea.

After the weather prediction, the state government has asked all district collectors to keep the administrative machinery ready and advised people to take safe shelter during thunder activity.

An official said that due to heavy rains from 4 pm on Sunday evening, some roads in Balasore Town area have been burnt.

In view of continuing heavy rains on the upper catchment areas of the Mahanadi basin, the officials concerned have opened 20 sluice gates in Hirakud Dam to discharge water.

Talking to media persons here, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said that the water level of major rivers including Mahanadi has increased due to heavy rains.

However, all the rivers were flowing below the danger level on Monday morning, he said.

Due to the downpore, he entered water in some villages and crop fields in Sundargarh and Jharsuguda districts, he said.

The priest said that the teams of Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Fire and Emergency Services have been cautious to deal with any incident.
