Around 4,000 new refugees from Myanmar have entered Mizoram in the last few days, after a new outbreak of fighting in the chin state of the neighboring country.
The Chin State in Myanmar is looking at a faceoff between two-consental jute forces-CNDF and Chinland Defense Force (CDF) Hualnogram–From July 2. As a result, thousands of residents have exploded in Champhai district of Mizoram.
By Monday afternoon, a security officer in Mizoram laid the number of people who had reached around 4,000 since the onset of the latest outbreak of violence.
“The situation is liquid, and a lot is still happening in the border areas, so this number is subject to change. People have largely come to the villages of Zokwathar and Psychumpai. They are living with their relatives on this side of the border or in camps installed by local organizations,” the official said.
The District Health Officer said that four injured people have also been brought for treatment of Mizoram due to the fight.

“Two of them have been admitted to the Champi District Hospital, and two have been sent to Isaol for treatment,” the official said.
Robert Zoramtuga, who led a Champhai District Committee on Myanmar refugees, said that the new people have been placed in a young Mizo Association Hall in Zokwathar and a community hall in Psychomfai. He said that before the latest arrival, the district was already giving shelter to about 13,000 refugees from Myanmar.

He said, “A large number of people had entered on Saturday when the fight became very intense. After this, it slowed down a bit, but today, the fight is taking place from Saikumpai, so more people have come in,” he said.
Mizoram is giving shelter to thousands of chin refugees, who share a general ethnicity with Mizos since the 2021 military coup. According to the estimates of the Mizoram Home Department, before this latest flow, there were about 33,000 chin refugees from Mizoram and 2,000 additional from Bangladesh.
The current fight in the Chin state is the result of tension within the resistance forces opposing military jute.
