The Center announced on Monday, data will be collected using the mobile apps available in English, Hindi and various regional languages during census 2027, and citizens will have an alternative to “self-dancing” through a dedicated web portal.
“Census 2027 will be the first digital census in the country and data will be collected using both mobile apps – Android and iOS in data, Hindi and regional languages. Last month, the government formally announced that India’s 16th census would be in two phases, with 1 March, 2027, for most of the country’s time and on October 1, 2026, there will be the prescribed reference dates for snow-bounds and remote areas such as Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Utirakhand. This census will also include the first nationwide caste calculation since 1931.

The Registrar General has established a three-level training structure: National Trainer, Master Trainer and Field Trainer, to provide focused and need-based training for each stage of Census 2027. Field trainers will provide training to about 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors, the post was added.
“Census 2027 will support a focused campaign for nationwide awareness, inclusive participation, final-meal engagement and field operations. It will emphasize sharing accurate, authentic and timely information, which ensures harmonious and effective outreach efforts,” said this.

In a letter to all states and central states, the Registrar of India and Census Commissioner Mitunjay Kumar Narayan asked him to make any proposed changes in the boundaries of administrative units before 31 December, 2025, when he would be considered final for census practice. He said that all villages and towns have been divided into uniform calculation blocks, and for each block, an enumerator is assigned to avoid any miss or recurrence during the counting of population.
