A platform of 10 Central Trade Unions and their colleagues on Wednesday called for a “Bharat Bandh” to oppose “anti-government’s anti-agricultural and anti-national pro-corporate policies”.
On Monday, the forum said that the preparation for the bandh has been taken by unions in all areas of the formal and informal/unorganized economy in Bayana.
Amarjeet Kaur of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) said, “More than 25 crore workers are expected to participate in the strike. Farmers and rural workers will also join protests across the country.”
Harbhajan Singh Sidhu from Hind Mazar Ki Sabha (HMS) said that banking, post, coal mining, factories and state transport services will be affected due to the strike.

In a statement, the Workers Union Forum said that it had presented a charter of 17 demands to Labor Minister Mansukh Mandavia last year.
It alleged that the government has not been conducting the annual labor conference for the last 10 years and continues to decide in violation in the interest of the labor force, attempts to impose four new labor codes to weaken the collective bargaining, to cripple the Sangh’s activities and take the favor of employers in the name of “comfortable” to do business.

The forum also alleged that economic policies are increasing unemployment, rising prices of required, reduction in wages in education, cuts in social sector spending, health, cutting in basic civilian facilities, and all these are pioneers for more inequalities and sufferings for the poor, as well as middle groups as well as middle groups.
“The government has abandoned the state of the welfare state of the country. It is working in the interest of foreign and Indian corporates, and it is clearly clear from the policies moving forward,” the forum said.
Referring to the special intense amendment of the electoral rolls in Bihar, the forum said: “The attack on democratic rights is more strict by this ruling government and now efforts are being made to de-franchise migrant workers, which are being started with Bihar as an immediate case. There are indications in similar acts in the state of Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh etc.
Trade unions “are fighting against public sector enterprises and public services, outsourcing policies, contractors and policies of casualization of the workforce”, said this.

The statement stated that the four labor code passed by the Parliament is to “suppress and cripp the trade union movement, increase working hours, snatch the rights of collective bargains, snatch the rights to strike and violate the violation of labor laws by employers.
Union leaders said that Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Joint Front of Agricultural Workers have supported the call call on 9 July and have decided to raise a large scale in rural India.
Trade unions had previously observed similar nationwide attacks on 26 November, 2020, March 28-29, 2022 and last year 16 February.
