Big Cabinet Declaration: Bihar Domicile now needs to avail 35% reservation for women in state government jobs

In departure from the current policy of the Bihar government to not require dominance for the state government jobs, the cabinet on Tuesday gave a go-forward for compulsory domicile for the existing 35 percent quota for women in all government jobs.

This would mean that women who are not residents of Bihar will not be eligible for state government jobs. In the past, the government has faced criticism for not implementing the domicile policy during collective recruitment of teachers.

This is the first example of the dominance policy being implemented by the Bihar government in recent times.

Bihar Additional Chief Secretary (Cabinet), Siddharth, told reporters after cabinet briefing, “A woman who is a resident of Bihar alone will now be able to avail the current 35 percent quota in jobs.”

This decision considers the importance of the assembly elections in the state and is another effort to strengthen and consolidate its “caste-plate” women vote bank by the Nitish Kumar-led government.

Celebration offer

In another important cabinet decision, the state government announced the formation of Bihar Youth Commission, which aims to provide more employment opportunities to the youth population of the state.

Siddharth said that the Commission will play an important role in advising the government on matters related to improving the condition of youth in the society, ensuring better education and employment for them and coordinating with government departments to make them self-reliant, skilled and employment-oriented.
