The Manipur High Court has directed the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to submit a detailed progress report on the murder of six civilians including three minors in Ziribam district in November last year.
The instructions were issued by a division bench consisting of Chief Justice K Somashekar and Justice A. Bimol Singh, while a Public Interest filed by a Soram Tekandrajit listening to a public interest litigation (PIL).
During the hearing, the High Court paid serious attention to the failure of the NIA in making any significant progress in the case and cited that the incident took place in November 2024.
The court said, “The incident took place on 11.11.2024 and on the same day, an FIR was lodged by the competent authority. However, till date, no progress report has been submitted by the concerned investigating agency under Section 167 of the CRPC.”
The court said, “The lawyer of the case has searched for a small adjournment on the basis that he wants to submit a detailed progress report in the context of the charge sheet. If the charge sheet is not filed, the case should be seriously seen,” the court said.

Directing the NIA to submit a detailed progress report, the bench set the next hearing for July 24.

A few days after his kidnapping, the bodies of six victims were thrown out of the Jiri River in Ziribam district and Barak River in Cachar district. The victims are identified as Yamrembum Rani Devi (60), Telem Theibi Devi (31) and their daughter Telem Thajamanbi Devi (8), Lishram Hithoibi Devi (25) and her two children-Lishram Chingkinganba Singh (two-and-a-half years old).
