Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, who has been convicted of killing Yemeni citizen Talal Abdo Mehdi, is ready to be executed on 16 July.
Samuel Jerome Baskaran, a social worker, who is currently involved in a conversation with government officials in Yemen and Talal’s family, confirmed the development. He said, “The Public Prosecutor issued prosecution to the jail officials. Execution is scheduled for 16 July. The options are still open. The Government of India can intervene in the matter to save his life,” he said.
Regarding an forgiveness from Talal’s family, Samuel said: “We had made a proposal to the family during the last meeting. So far, he has not responded. I have left for Yemen today to resume the conversation for Yemen.”
In Kochi, a domestic worker Nimisha’s mother, Prema Kumari, is camping in Yemen last year. Nimisha, a native of Kerala, worked as a nurse in Yemen for many years until he was accused of murder in 2017.
With Talal’s support, Nimisha ran a clinic in Yemen, but he allegedly faced mental, physical and financial misconduct, which ended in murder.

Death was sentenced by a trial court in Yemen and the Supreme Court upheld it. Last year, Yemen’s President Rashad al-Alimi approved the death sentence for a 38-year-old woman. The order has been with the prosecutor since January this year.
Since then, his fate has been hanging from a thread, which is based on a forgiveness from Talal’s family.

Last year, when the President of Yemen approved the death sentence, the Ministry of External Affairs in Delhi said it would expand all possible help for him and his family. In December last year, her mother contacted the Delhi High Court to secure the exemption for Yemen suffering from the struggle from the travel ban. Since her arrival in Sana, Kumari has held some meetings with Nimisha in jail.
