Amid the claims of good governance by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, on Tuesday, the Left Front said that the law and order in the state had deteriorated, alleging that the opposition parties were repeatedly attacked by workers of both the ruling BJP and Tipra Motha.
In a letter written to Saha, four left leaders, including opposition leaders Jinendra Chaudhary, Manik Dey, Krishna Rakshit and Naresh Jamaatiya, highlighted attacks on opposition MLAs and party offices, disintegration of party programs, and the houses that claimed to be in the presence of police between June 17 and July.
“At present, the law and order of the state is not in the hands of the police, but it is located on the craze of some miscreants protected by ruling BJP and Tipra Motha. This indifferent attitude of the police is giving an independent hand to suppress the opposition and disrupt their activities, which is also to reduce an alarm.
“Despite all these, we, we, CPI (M), from the Tripura State Committee, believe in you and hope that you will allow the police to be non-partners, to act independently to act freely to take legal action against the law-breaker for any party or religious identity. The decline of the state’s general law and order,” the leaders wrote.
Giving details of 13 incidents, the left front leaders said that while traveling on a motorcycle on July 6, CPM Belonia MLA Dipankar Sen was attacked by BJP -backed cadres and his private guard was also injured while trying to save them. On the same day, Congress MLA Gopal Roy was attacked by BJP cadres, while addressing an indoor meeting in Pratapgarh, he said at the turf of his house.

The meeting of a CPM village in Bamutia constituency of West Tripura district was interrupted by BJP cadres on the same day, the leaders on the left were further written. On July 7, the leaders wrote, CPM was forced to leave their campaign program in Kamalpur in Dhalai district due to alleged threat from Bhalai cadres.
Left front leaders listed the alleged attack on CPM cadres by BJP’s youth wing activists in Bishalgarh on 17 June, allegedly of Congress MLA Sudeep Roy Burman in Udaipur on 21 June, and an alleged attack by CPM Motha on the CPM indoor meeting in Tarkarajala.
