Two CRPF jawans injured in IED explosion in Bijapur. Bharat News

Two CRPF personnel were injured in the IED blast on Tuesday evening in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

Police said the explosion occurred around 5 pm when two Jawans of the 229th Battalion of CRPF were at a road safety operation (RSO) between Timpur and Murdanda Road under the boundary of Awalli police station.

An official said that the injured personnel were taken to Bijapur District Hospital, from where they were sent to Raipur for better treatment.

Maoists often plant IED on dirt tracks to target security personnel and thwart soft anti -operations inside the forests. Since 2024, a total of 1,013 IEDs have been seized, then the majority from Bijapur is 732. Despite this crack, 12 jawans have died and 46 have suffered injuries in the IED blasts initiated by the Maoists so far this year. Last year, nine of the 19 soldiers killed by the Maoists died in IED blasts.

On 9 June, Akash Girpunje, an additional Superintendent of Police in the neighboring Sukma district of Bijapur, was killed and two officials were injured in an IED blast. The explosives were placed next to a vehicle burnt by Maoists in a mine. Girepunje and his team went to the spot for inspection when they accidentally stepped on the IED, triggering the explosion.

In January this year, 8 jawans and a civil driver died when their vehicle was blown into an IED explosion at Kutro, Bijapur. In March, a group of jawan migrated a narrow migration after an IED, when his vehicle was closed for moments after passing the spot in Maddapur.
