Families of 11 people who have gone missing since a series of cloudbers have killed Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh on 30 June, clinging to unconscious hopes. Thunga sub-division has five out of 11 missing children from Deji village, three women, and a man who belonged to two families.
The missing includes Gokul Chand, 61, his wife Dulma Devi, 55, his daughter-in-law Bhuvaneshwari Devi, 29, and two grandchildren-Suryash, and Urvanshi, 3. Another family lost four members: Kanta Devi, 32, and her three Bagi-Acta, 10, Bhiwanshi, 5, and three-year-old. The remaining two missing persons have been identified as Sohan Lal, 51, a government teacher and a woman, whose identity has not yet been established.
Chand’s eldest son Veer Bahadur said, “My parents, my younger brother’s wife, and his two children have been washed, because we hope for disappointment. My parents lived with my younger brother Mukesh Kumar’s family. Thankfully, he was not a house that night.
Bahadur said, “We are searching strictly for any mark of our loved ones, with all, rescue teams, but so far, no success has been found. My nephew Suryanash was studying in class 4 in a local government’s school,” Bahadur said.
Bahadur said that his younger brother, Mukesh Kumar, had a house, which was situated at a lower height than him, and it was killed by a huge boulder who came with water.

While he continues his efforts to locate his missing family members, Kanta Devi’s father Hem Singh has lost all Asha. He said, “What can we do in this situation? What was to happen.”
“My son -in -law, Indra Singh, a tailor, was staying in a rented residence in Dejji with his wife Kanta and his three daughters. An official of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) said, “So far, 27 people have gone missing in Mandi district as many cloudbers were killed on June 30. 11 of 27 people were washed in Deji. We have widen our field of search operation. We are making honest efforts to attract the missing people.”
Monica Devi, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat, Pakhre said, “Rescue teams are making frustrated efforts to find the missing, but the possibility is very thin. Today, government officials including the people of the revenue department visited the affected families”.
