SC says that Bihar Rolls Revision may continue, but asks EC to consider India News in the list of Aadhaar, voter ID, documents, India news

The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to stop the Election Commission (ECI) of India from proceeding with the special intensive amendment (SIR) of the election role in Bihar, where assembly elections are going to be held.

A bench of Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Joymlya Bagchi asked the pole body to consider the Aadhaar, voter ID and ration card with the aim of updating the role, but left it at the discretion of ECI whether to accept or reject them.

The bench said that after appearing for senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi, ECI, it was presented that it is not complete to consider the list of 11 documents for amendment exercise.

“We are also considering that the case needs a hearing. Therefore, let it recover before the appropriate bench on 28 July.

“… Mr. Rakesh Dwivedi himself has stated that the list of documents that are to be considered by the Election Commission for verification of a voter, contains 11 documents, but the list is not complete in … Therefore, in our view, in our view, since the list is not complete … It will also be in the interest of justice that most of the petitioners will satisfy the petitioners,” said this.

Dwivedi said that the order referring to additional documents may be obstructed as the process is already going on. He said that it was not necessary to name additional documents.

But Justice Dhulia said, “We are saying that it is on you to consider it. If you have good reasons to leave it, leave it, give reasons.”

The petitioners said that they are not pressurizing the interim migration at this level as the draft electoral rolls are to be published only on 1 August.

Dwivedi said that the petitioners had clearly asked for an interim migration and, therefore, the court should clarify that the ECI could proceed with this process.

Justice Dhulia said, “We have said. You walk.”

The petitions against Sir were mentioned in front of the back by senior advocates Kapil Sibal, M Singhvi, Gopal Shankaranarayanan and Shadan Farit. Appearing for one of the petitioners, Sibal called it “impossible task”. Singhvi said, “There are eight crore voters and four crores have to be calculated.”
