1,340 cricket balls for Rs 1 crore: Allegations behind the arrest of the President of Hyderabad Cricket Association | Bharat News

Cricket Balls, Air Conditioner, Sports Apparel and Plumbing – are among the heads under whom Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) Chairman A Jagan Mohan Rao reportedly “Abuse” money In connivance with Association Treasurer CJ Srinivasa Rao and its Chief Executive Officer Sunil Kaante, Telangana CID has claimed.

According to Telangana Crime Investigation Department (CID) officials, the alleged misuse was to a tune of at least Rs 2.32 crore. According to the FIR filed in the case, alleged misuse occurred in six cases, and includes “allocation” catering services and “purchase” electrical materials.

The CID case is based on a complaint filed on 9 June 2025 by Telangana Cricket Association General Secretary D Gurwa Reddy. According to the FIR, Jagan Mohan Rao, along with others in the HCA’s top council, allegedly misusing Rs 1.03 crore, claiming that India (BCCI) was being spent on the purchase of cricket balls for the Cricket Control Board for Cricket in the domestic season 2024-25.

“The number of balls purchased for this huge amount was just 1,340,” reads the FIR. In this purchase, Rao violated the tender process and did not maintain stock register, reads the FIR.

Similarly, Rs 11.85 lakh was allegedly listed as being spent on the new air conditioner.

In the purchase of plumbing materials for IPL 2023-24 and 2024-25, Rs 21.7 lakh was allegedly cheated, reading the FIR. Similarly, for the 18th edition of IPL 2024-25, Rs 6.85 lakh was allegedly misused for the purchase of power materials.

The FIR also alleged that catering was converted to a private seller to Rs 31.07 lakh, and was misused by Rs 56.84 lakh in the name of purchase of apparel for BCCI domestic season 2024-25.

Jagan Mohan Rao, Srinivasa Rao and Sunil Kante were arrested on 9 July on charges of 465 (punishment for fraud), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using Genuin A fake document or electronic record), read with 403 (cheating) 34 (cheating) 34 (cheating).

Rao and two others are accused of forgery regarding 2023 HCA elections. According to CID, Rao allegedly made membership of a cricket club – one of the requirements to become a candidate – for the election. C Rajendra Yadav and G. Kavitha, two top officials of Gaulipura Cricket Club were later nominated as Sri Chakra Cricket Club, also arrested on 9 July in connection with the case.

The CID has accused Rao and other arrested office bearrs of HCA’s allegedly incorrectly IPL franchise Sun Risers Hyderabad (SRH) officials. The complaint also includes “threatening threats and blackmail claims and access to corporate boxes” in this complaint, CID said in a statement signed by Adgp Cid Cid Charu Sinha.

The HCA publicly alleged after Sun Risers Hyderabad during the IPL season that its presidents were asking for every match 3,900 and above for more and more obeisance. SRH also alleged that the HCA president had closed the VIP box for the Lucknow Super Veterans (LSG), which was a few hours a few hours before a match with him.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the Telangana Cricket Association – the complainant in the case issued a press release, stating, “This arrest is not an end – it should begin to improve.”

The call to HCA and Gaulipura Cricket Club was unlikely for a response.
