The Government of Goa has launched the Choro-Raibandar Marg in Mandovi River-‘Roro) Ferry Boats-‘ Gangotry ‘and’ Dwarka ‘-Two Roll On-Rol of-Rol of (Roaro) Ferry Boats. The ghat, with a high capacity, will replace the traditional boats and cut a significantly in travel time for travelers.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who inaugurated the ships on Monday, stated that this is the first type of Rooro Ferry service in India.
“This is a significant progress in the infrastructure of Goa’s waterway. With high capacity and better technology, new ghats, replacing traditional boats, commutor reduces waiting time and service interruptions while increasing comfort. It will benefit local passengers.
“People should know that when the government is building any jetty, it will only be for public transport and not for any other purpose,” he said.
Sawant said that modern ghats will double at speed and have a high capacity. He said that the ghats have been commissioned for the government with zero cost and are environmentally friendly and efficient. “The government is considering a plan to add more Roro Ghats on other inland waterways routes,” he said.

Each Roro boat can be adjusted 100 passengers, at least 15 four wheelers and 30–40 two wheelers, which can significantly reduce the load on traditional boating services. Officials said that with a speed of 10 knots – twice from traditional ghats – new ships will ensure rapid travel and reduce waiting time for passengers.
Ferry boats are designed and manufactured by the Vijai Marine Shipyard and will be working on a built-in-form-operated-transfer basis. The vessels have clearly marked lanes for two wheelers and four wheelers, an air -conditioned compartment for travelers and emergency medical kits.

River Navigation Minister Subhash Fal Desai told the media persons that travel time from Choro Island to Ribandar (near Panaji) would be 12–13 minutes with Roaro Ferry Service, as compared to 30 minutes compared to the traditional boats.
