Telangana HC instructs India News to end the 22-week pregnancy of a minor rape victim

The Telangana High Court in Hyderabad recently directed the state officials that Medical termination The 17 -year -old victim’s pregnancy of smuggling based on the recommendation of a medical board.

Justice K. Sarath’s bench on 9 July pronounced the order in response to a petition filed by M/S Prajwala, an organization dedicated to the victims of human trafficking.

On July 1, the bench had directed the State Government in Hyderabad and the Superintendent of Gandhi Hospital to immediately form a medical board to investigate the petitioner’s request for the treatment of the 21 -week pregnancy of the rape victim and inform its opinion within a week.

The petition sought direction to the state’s Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department; Department for women, children, disabled and senior citizens; And Gandhi Medical Hospital to conduct necessary medical examinations on the permission of minor and grant for the end of his pregnancy. The petitioner represented by senior advocate Deepak Mishra argued that the continuation of pregnancy would cause serious injuries to the minor victim.

During the proceedings, the petitioner of the Assistant Government for Medical and Health presented a report from the Medical Board on 8 July 2025. The report prepared after investigation of the victim unevenly stated that “… according to the pregnancy Act, 2021 Amendment Section (3) Explanation (2), the pregnancy of the victim girl can be eliminated.”

The court said, “In view of the medical board report, the pregnancy of the victim girl can be abolished and the victim girl is also ready to end her pregnancy. In view of that, the defendant officers are directed to take steps to end the pregnancy of the victim girl.”
