After the back to back encounter at Indravati National Park in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh, Maoists killed two Shikha Dots (education messengers) on Tuesday, suspected of being a police informer, taking a total number of citizens killed from 25 to 25 so far this year.
The state government introduced the education messenger as a temporary system in remote villages in Bastar region as it was difficult for such villages to hire teachers. A villager, who has completed HSC, is hired as a teacher in the village and is paid Rs 12,000 per month from the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds. They teach in primary schools that mostly run in small huts.
The incident was about 57 km from Bijapur district headquarters under the jurisdiction of Parsegad Police Station on Monday night in a remote village in the National Park area. The deceased has been identified from Pilur village 28, 28, 29, 29 -year -old, Tekmeta village.
