Shukla Axiom-4 was one of the four crew members on the Spacex’s Dragon spacecraft on the mission and collected experience on the hands of a space trip that would help India’s first human spaceflight mission, Gaganan.
Shukla is one of the four Indian Air Force officers, who were shortlisted to travel at Gaganan in 2027.
So, how much did the Indian ISRO spend on Shubanshu Shukla this time?
According to the BBC, the Space Research Organization (ISRO) spent 5 billion or 500 crores ($ 59m; £ 43m) on Axiom-4 on Axiom-4 on Axiom-4.
The expenses incurred by ISRO include the cost of training Shukla’s training for the mission as well as a seat on the Dragon Spacecraft of SpaceX for a 20-day visit, which launched Shukla, and three other-Americans to Pagi Whitson, Poland’s Slossage Uznanski-Vishalskis and Hungeri’s Tibor Kapu.

Speaking to the BBC, Director of ISRO Project, Sudesh Balan said that Shukla started harsh training in August last year. His training included physical and psychological assessments for the preparation of travel.
ISRO is likely to benefit from relevant training, exposure to facilities and conducting cooperative experiments in space.

ISRO’s future ambitions
- The Gaganan Mission of ISRO, planned for 2027, aims to take three astronauts to 400 km orbit and return after three days.
- India is also looking at ambitious plans to set up a space station by 2035.
