Ahmedabad declared the clean city in India in India in 2024-25, because Indore tricks for 'Super League'

Ahmedabad was named the country’s largest city at the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards on Thursday, followed by Bhopal and Lucknow. President Draupadi Murmu presented the award to Ahmedabad for being a top city among people with a population of 10 lakh or more during the award ceremony in New Delhi.

This year, the awards included a separate category of recognition for those cities in the top three of their categories in the last three years. This new category, Super Clean League cities included previous winners Indore, Surat and Navi Mumbai. Last year, Indore and Surat were jointly recognized as the cleanest cities, with Indore to maintain their top position for the seventh consecutive time.

In the category of cities with a population of 3 lakh to 10 lakhs, Meera Bhayandar topped, followed by Bilaspur and Jamshedpur respectively.

The awards set up under the Swachh Bharat Mission under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs were introduced in 2016 with 73 cities. This year, 4,589 cities were included in the survey which was held from April 2024 to March 2025.

According to a government release, this year, the awards were presented in four categories: Super Clean League City; Top three clean cities in five population categories; Special Category: Ganga Town, Cantonment Board, Safimitra Security, Mahakumba; And State Level Awards – Demanding of Clean City State/UT.

It was also stated that for the first time, cities were classified into five population-based categories: very small cities: 10 million population.

Speaking at the event, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal said that the Ministry will launch a special one -year campaign to remove the Legacy landfill on August 15.
