Social media giant Meta apologized on Thursday and said that it has set an issue related to wrong Kannada translation on his platforms after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah raised serious concerns about misleading materials.
Increasing the alarm on the problem, Siddaramaiah said that the defective auto-translation of Kannada content on Facebook and Instagram was distorting facts and potentially misleading users.
A Meta spokesperson said, “We have decided an issue that briefly caused Kannada translation. We apologize that this happened.” PTI,
In a post on X, Siddaramaiah wrote: “The faulty auto-translation of the Kannada content on the meta platforms is distorting facts and misleading users. It is particularly dangerous when it comes to official communication. My media advisor has formally urged Mata to improve immediate improvement.”
He said: “Social media platforms should act responsibly. I am careful to be careful for citizens that the translations shown are often wrong. Such negligence by technical giants can harm public understanding and trust.”

According to report by PTIThe Chief Minister’s media advisor, KV Prabhakar emailed Meta on 16 July, urged for immediate action and expressed concern over the automatic translation of Kannada content, especially in official communication.
The Karnataka government has asked the meta to temporarily suspend the auto-translation facility for Kannada content until the translation accuracy is strengthened.
Machine translations are usually shown to users on Facebook and Instagram, including public biographical information and specific posts.
